Driver charged in pedestrian death

Police are charging a Bath Beach man with reckless driving after he allegedly struck and killed a 61-year-old neighbor with his car at the corner of 21st and Cropsey avenues on March 16.

Officials identified the victim as 61-year-old Xia Li Yue of 21st Avenue.

The motorist, who lives three blocks from the victim on Bay Parkway, was driving north on 21st Avenue at 8:13 am, when he made a right on Cropsey Avenue and allegedly struck Yue, who was crossing Cropsey Avenue toward Bath Avenue, police said.

The victim was in a cross walk and had the right-of-way, law enforcement sources said.

The driver remained at the scene, where police arrested him and charged him with failure to exercise due care and violating highway law, police said.
