Police arrested a woman who allegedly fatally struck a 7-year-old-boy and injured his mother with her car at an East New York intersection on Thursday morning.

The 48-year-old driver was heading eastbound in her gray Jeep Cherokee on Blake Avenue around 8:15 am and made a right turn on Pennsylvania Avenue and hit Payson Lott — who was in the crosswalk with his 39-year-old mother, according to police.

First responders rushed both victims to Brookdale Hospital where the boy died of his injuries, but his mother survived and is in stable conditions, according to the authorities.

The driver remained at the scene and police arrested her just after 11 am on two charges failing to yield to pedestrians and failing to exercise due care, as well as driving with a suspended license — but later released her with an order to return to court, according to a Police Department spokeswoman.

The suspect’s license had been suspended because she failed to respond to three previous summonses, according to the spokeswoman, who couldn’t immediately confirm what those summonses were for.

The tragedy comes just two days after a school bus operator fatally struck 10-year-old Patience Albert less than two miles away at Crescent Street near Wortman Avenue on Tuesday.
