A driver struck an 11-year-old boy riding his scooter on E. 27th Street, sending him to the hospital with head trauma and a broken thumb on Sept. 25, police said.

The 33-year-old driver in a 2016 Nissan Rogue was traveling toward Avenue Z at about 5 pm when he plowed into the youngster, who was scootering on the sidewalk towards Shore Parkway after he veered into the street to cross in the middle of the block near Voorhies Avenue, according to authorities.

The impact threw the kid more than 30 feet, officials said.

Emergency responders transported the 11-year-old to Lutheran Medical Center with brain contusions and a fractured left thumb, but in stable condition, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and police did not arrest him or issue any summons, officials said. Photos from the scene show a small baggie filled with what looks like marijuana, but police said they had no information about it and are still investigating.
