The former chairperson of Community Board 10 has announced that he is stepping down from the board.
Craig Eaton, who served as chairperson of CB 10 for three terms from 2004 through 2006, also served as the board’s vice chairperson and as the chairperson of the Zoning and Land Use Committee during his tenure on the board.
Eaton made the announcement at the board’s April meeting. Addressing the group gathered at the Knights of Columbus hall, 13th Avenue and 86th Street, Eaton said that he had made the decision not to reapply for a position on the board because of the time he was expending on his new responsibilities, as chairperson of the Kings County Republican Party.
“It’s been hard to get to meetings,” Eaton told the group. “There are only 50 seats on the board. I feel if I’m not making the meetings, it’s unfair to you and to the community, so I have decided to step down.”
Eaton added that it had been, “An honor and a privilege to serve, and to work with each and every one of you and all of the former members of the board.
“I think we all accomplish a lot daily, weekly, hourly, for this community. I think you do a great job every day of your lives to make this community the safest and the cleanest and the best community in the city and the state,” Eaton added, to a round of applause from board members.
“Craig is always a gentleman,” noted Dean Rasinya, the board’s current chair, who had served under Eaton as vice chairperson. “We all know that. He’s available any time we need him, and he has been available anytime we needed him, and he’s always made that clear.
“Thank you for everything you’ve done,” Rasinya added, turning to Eaton, “and I’m sure we’re going to call on you again.”
“Any time,” Eaton rejoined.
