Enjoying a bumper crop of Park Slope living

A cultural greenmarket of family-friendly delights was in store for visitors when Spoke the Hub presented its Local Produce Festival in Park Slope, complete with a nibble of dance and a sip of jazz, granting visitors a tempting taste of the arts – Brooklyn-style.

The 14th annual two-day celebration of spring drew mom, dad and the kids to three area gardens for a showcase of local creativity and neighborhood cheer, featuring dynamic live music performances, sizzling dance and drumming workshops and even an evening swing dance party beneath the stars.

The cornucopia of crowd-pleasers starred a medley of local talent, including marching bands and martial arts demonstrations at the Warren Street/St. Mark’s Garden, 623 Warren Street; Garden of Union between 4th and 5th avenues; and President Street Garden at 5th Avenue.

Founded by choreographer and community activist Elise Long, Spoke the Hub is a not-for-profit, multipurpose community arts organization, providing performance, exhibition, teaching and publication opportunities for artists, and the general public.

It operates its programs from two art centers: The Re:Creation Center on Union Street, currently under renovation, and the Gowanus Arts Building, 295 Douglass Street.
