Expert help for LICH – New chief restructuring officer joins the team

For the past several months, the Board of Trustees and senior staff from Continuum and Long Island College Hospital have been discussing approaches and options to secure a bright and prosperous future for LICH. The issues that must be addressed are complex, and the ultimate plan of action will require particular expertise and experience.

To assist them, they have engaged a Chief Restructuring Officer, Dominick Stanzione, who is now on site at the hospital. Rita Battles, who had been serving as president and chief executive officer for LICH, 339 Hicks Street, is stepping down from this position and will be leaving LICH to pursue other endeavors.

Stanzione will serve as the interim CEO, working closely with John Byrne, the hospital’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, and the other members of LICH’s executive and clinical leadership team.

Over the course of her three-year tenure, Battles made significant improvements at LICH. Most notably, she oversaw the renovation of many areas of the hospital, helped broaden the hospital’s clinical scope and capabilities, and strengthened partnerships with community based health providers. She leaves LICH with everyone’s sincere best wishes.

The board, as well as LICH, are confident that Stanzione is the right man for this important restructuring task. He comes to LICH following seven and a half years as chief executive officer for Bons Secours Charity Health System in Rockland and Orange counties, where he led a successful turnaround of this three-hospital system, which includes Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, Bons Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis and St. Anthony Hospital in Warwick. Under his leadership, the system more than doubled its revenue and successfully implemented major clinical initiatives, including the creation of a full interventional cardiac surgery program at Good Samaritan.

Stanzione lived for more than 40 years in Brooklyn and is a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School. He earned his undergraduate degree in physical therapy from SUNY Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from New York University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives.

While the anticipated changes that lie ahead are not going to be easy to implement, working together we can accomplish what is necessary to assure LICH’s long-term future.
