To help get families into the spirit of the season, more than 300 children from PS 255 and their parents attended a Holiday Craft Night at the school.
Among the items created by families, who engaged in arts and crafts projects alongside their children, were vinyl stationery folders, découpage sewing baskets, and festive wreaths richly adorned with flowers and ribbons.
In one room, everyone created “sock buddies”made from sample socks, ribbons, googly eyes, and yarn stuffed with soft batting, while parents and their children in another roomcreated fun and practical canisters from large coffee cans, inspired by the artwork of Keith Haring. In keeping with this theme, everyone received Keith Haring greeting card sets and posters to take home with them as well.
Art teacher Miriam Rankin, who coordinated the event, procured most of the complimentary materials from Long Island City’s Materials for the Arts, “a veritable garden of delights for art teachers looking for materials for creative projects.”
As if a good time were not already had by all, the evening was happily capped off by the “No Homework” passes distributed to children from principal Linda L. Singer and Assistant Principal Susan Ehrlich.
PS 255 is located at 1866 East 17th Street in the Homecrest section of Brooklyn.
