Bad move
Two apartments in one Lexington Avenue building were burglarized last week, including the new home of a man who had just moved hours before the crime.
On Sept. 21, the man and his clan loaded their belongings into his new residence, between Grand and Classon avenues, then went out to eat at 9:30 pm. One hour later, they came back to the apartment to find that his laptop, other computer equipment, digital camera, bicycle and backpack had been stolen.
The victim told police that wood boards in a broken window had been removed while he supped with his family and that the landlord had not changed the locks after the previous tenant moved.
Another tenant in the building reported a burglary happening between Sept. 20 and 23.
The 44-year-old victim told police that someone stole her laptop and bicycle while she was not home from 7 pm on Sept 20 until three days later.
Finders key-pers
A man gave up his search for his fallen car keys too quickly on Fulton Street on Sept. 23.
A 52-year-old driver said after parking his car near the corner of So. Oxford Street at noon, he dropped his keys on the ground. Unable to find them, he went inside for two hours.
Someone else, perhaps with sharper eyesight, located them and drove off with the victim’s 2003 Saab.
Troubled teens
Police arrested three 13-year-old boys — one of whom carried a gun — who tried to rob a man at the corner of South Portland Avenue and Fulton Street on Sept. 24.
The trifecta of troublemakers demanded money from a 23-year-old man at 8:30 pm. He refused to kick in anything, so one of the juvenile delinquents brandished a gun and repeated their demand. This time, the man fled to the subway and a patrolman arrested the youngsters.
Smash and grab
A hooligan ransacked a parked car on the corner of Willoughby Street and Fleet Place on Sept. 22.
The driver, who was having dinner nearby from 6 pm to 8 pm, told police that someone shattered the driver’s-side rear window and took her laptop, “random selection of Russian music” CDs, $110, designer glasses, satellite radio receiver and assorted odds and ends.
Rock and roll
An intruder looted a Greene Avenue apartment after heaving a rock through a bedroom window on Sept. 22.
The apartment, between Grand and Classon avenues, was unoccupied from 9:45 am to 5:45 pm, according to the 30-year-old resident. She told police the prowler took her laptop, but did not appear to steal anything additional.
Is nothing sacred?
A man mugged another man at the corner of Myrtle and Park avenues on Sept. 25.
The mugger threatened the 28-year-old victim at 1 am with a gun, though he never revealed it. The thief took $6, a bag of groceries and the man’s Koran.
