Misty−eyed students and teachers joined the community – among them alums from the Class of ‘65 – in bidding an emotional farewell to Holy Family School, which is shutting its doors after schooling Canarsie’s children for 59 years.
The assemblage shared memories and attended a Mass in the adjoining church, 9719 Flatlands Avenue, to honor the cash−strapped and enrollment−challenged parochial school which, officially, closed on June 20.
In September, students will relocate to Our Lady of Trust’s remaining two campuses at Our Lady of Miracles, East 87th Street and Flatlands; and St. Jude School, 1696 Canarsie Road.
