Fast acting cops honored by 76th Precinct Council

A cell phone snatcher was no match for a duo of dynamic cops from the 76th Precinct, recognized recently by the 76th Precinct Community Council for dialing in some fine police work.

On Nov. 9, a 16-year-old reported being robbed of a cell phone at Court and Congress Street, and shortly thereafter, another victim reported being robbed of her purse and phone on Amity Street, according to Captain Kenneth Corey, the commanding officer of the 76th Precinct.

Officers Rosemary Gomez and Theresa McCourt were on routine patrol when they received the radio call about the incidents, and began their canvass of the area. In no time, they tracked and stopped a suspect at 178 Bond Street, who had on his possession two cell phones — on belonging to the robbery victim, and the other to the purse snatch victim. The suspect was positively identified by the victims, Corey said, and was taken into custody without incident.

“This was outstanding work,” Corey said at the Dec. 1 meeting of the community council.“They brought an end to a one man crime wave in Cobble Hill.”

For their efforts, the cops were awarded Cop of the Month honors, taking home plaques and warm applause from the large crowd in the stationhouse, 191 Union Street.
