Finally, New Orleans and Park Slope are together again.
Last united during the outpouring of post-Katrina support, the two centers of the world will come together again with two Mardi Gras parties on Feb. 20, both featuring live music from the Big Easy.
An all-night party will rock the Lighthouse Tavern, with the night’s proceeds going to the New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund.
“We’re donating a dollar from every Abita beer and Hurricane,” said co-owner Tommi Rubens-Quiros. “If we make our goal, we’ll donate $150 in each band’s name.”
The “Fat Tuesday” celebration is also the kickoff of “What’s Your Art Tuesdays,” a night that lets patrons run the show and is open to everything from drum circles to discussion groups.
Another Park Slope party will be at Two Boots Brooklyn (pictured). The Cajun-Italian eatery will offer special drinks and a New Orleans spread (in years past, alligator and frog legs have been served). “We try to make it as New Orleans as possible,” bartender Tara Marli told GO Brooklyn. “The staff comes decked out in costumes and we give away beads and all sorts of fun things.”
