Bat men busted
A 47-year-old man and his 21-year-old son were arrested on April 11 for attacking a Midwood gas station attendant two weeks earlier — all because the employee wouldn’t change a $20.
Investigators claim the 21-year-old suspect entered the gas station, which is at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Avenue O, at 10:15 pm on March 28 and asked if he could break a $20.
But the gas station employee refused, claiming that the suspect would have to buy something first.
Enraged, the 21-year-old left, returning a short time later with his father. Together, they beat the victim with their fists and a baseball bat wrapped in wire, officials said.
The victim suffered injuries to his hand as he tried to deflect the blows. The two men fled, but were both in custody by last Monday.
Bus accident probed
Cops are investigating a 17-year-old girl’s claims that she was hit by a city bus near the corner of Kings Highway and E. 18th Street on April 14.
The victim said she was standing at the crosswalk at 6:40 pm when the bus rolled by, sideswiping her.
Flip fiends
Two thugs robbed a 14-year-old boy on Avenue R on April 13 after threatening to “flip” him.
The victim was approaching E. 16th Street at 4:50 pm when the suspects grabbed him -— and took his cellphone.
Creepy moment
A thief broke into a Kings Highway apartment on April 11 — while two young girls were sleeping inside.
A 44-year-old tenant in the building, which is near E. Second Street, said the thief forced open the front door between 10 and 10:30 am. Her girls said they heard the stranger rummage through the apartment, then curse and run out of the apartment — but not before palming $800 and some jewelry.
Store raid
A thief broke into the Chin Jin 99-Cent store on Avenue U on April 10, pilfering the register.
Workers at the store, which is between E. 23rd and E. 24th streets, said the thief removed the hinges to the back door before coming inside sometime after 9 pm.
The thief emptied the register and swiped the memory unit from the surveillance cameras, so no one knows who he is.
Bus bruiser
A 14-year-old boy was arrested on April 15 after damaging a city bus on Avenue U.
Witnesses said the teen smashed a glass panel on the bus, which was parked near Ocean Avenue, by smacking it with his hand at 8:40 am.
Laptop swipe
A thief removed a laptop computer from an Avenue U doctor’s office on April 14.
Workers at the office, which is located near W. Ninth Street, said that the laptop computer was taken from the office sometime after 6 pm.
Wallet taken
A thief snatched a wallet from a 58-year-old woman shopping along Kings Highway on April 17.
The victim had just left a store, which is between E. Fourth and E. Fifth streets, at 9 am when the wallet fell out of her pocket.
A male on a bicycle scooped up the wallet and sped off — using the credit cards a short time later to buy two MetroCards.
Pervy pick-up
A senior citizen made lecherous advances on a 15-year-old boy on April 8 when a car ride on Avenue U went horribly awry.
The victim was nearing Nostrand Avenue at 5:25 pm when the senior rolled up to him in a car and offered him a ride.
The teen accepted the lift — but quickly wished that he didn’t: once the car was in motion, the senior started asking him about his sexual orientation and started touching his leg.
The teen got out of the car before the advances got any further and called police.
T-Mobile clean-out
A crew of thieves made off with more than $2,200 in phones on April 8 during a raid on a T Mobile store on Avenue U.
The thieves entered the store at 11:35 am pretending to be customers, but snipped the security wires to the display cases as one of the crew members distracted an employee.
