FBI agents raided four southern Brooklyn apartments on Wednesday as they clamped down on an alleged extortion ring investigators say stretched from Brighton Beach to Marine Park.
Federal authorities said they arrested four men from Brighton Beach, Marine Park, Homecrest, and Sheepshead Bay in separate early-morning raids. Two other alleged extortion crew members were arrested in Manhattan and Queens, officials said.
In Homecrest, more than a dozen agents swarmed a six-story apartment building on E. 13th Street between Kings Highway and Avenue R at 5:30 am — exiting the building 15 minutes later with a married father of two in handcuffs, stunned witnesses said.
“I was surprised,” said Devat Bektesi, the building’s superintendent. “The guy was quiet and minded his own business.”
All six men were charged with extortion conspiracy and face up to 20 years in prison, said a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s office, who would not provide any further details on the raids by Thursday night.
