FEEL THE BEAT

Les Ballets Africains,
the National Ensemble of the Republic of Guinea, will perform
a two-part program at Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts
on March 6 as part of its 50th anniversary tour.

The large company of dancers and master drummers is led by artistic
director Italo Zambo and choreographer Hamidou Bangoura.

The first half of the program is a narrative dance about villagers
overcoming oppression, and the second half depicts villagers
working together to overcome poverty and hunger, culminating
with "cathedral of rhythms," a percussion extravaganza
and display of costumes representing the diversity of cultures
indigenous to Africa.

Tickets are $40 and $35. The performance takes place at 8 pm
at Brooklyn College’s Walt Whitman Theater, 900 Campus Road at
Hillel Place in Midwood. For more information, call (718) 951-4500.
