Coney Island native and New York Met Nelson Figueroa returned to his home turf to speak about his days at Abraham Lincoln High School, wowing students with his tales about growing up in Brooklyn.
The Major Baseball League pitcher, who grew up on Mermaid Avenue and West 33rd Street, received a warm welcome at his alma mater, 2800 Ocean Parkway, on his first visit back since graduating there in 1992.
Figueroa, who reacquainted with several of his teachers and spoke to students about the merits of a sound education, was presented with the high school baseball jersey he wore during his days at Lincoln.
During one moment of levity, the star athlete took a trip down memory lane when he was stopped by school security guards and asked for his hall pass.
Figueroa went onto attend Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., where he pitched for three years and earned a bachelors degree in American Studies.
