First annual Park Slope Fifth Avenue Art & Photo Walk

Move over Museum Row, Park Slope’s Fifth Avenue may give Manhattan’s cultural hub a run for its money — at least until Labor Day.

The work of 40 artists will be showcased in roughly 80 local businesses, stores, and restaurants along Fifth from Dean to 18th Street, transformed into ersatz exhibit space during the first annual Park Slope Fifth Avenue Art & Photo Walk.

The event, sponsored by the Park Slope Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District (BID), will officially launch July 7 and will span through September 7.

According to the BID, artists participating in the walk include Jonathan Blum, local painter best known for his fanciful portraits; Erika Clark, travel photographer and photojournalist showing images from her recent trip to Kashmir; and Harry Tarzian, long−time local business owner and photographer focusing on his street close−up collection.

Other events during the summer−long Walk include an Art Sidewalk Sale along the Avenue and the World’s Largest Sidewalk Chalk Mural, as well as two group exhibits of participating artists.

Irene LoRe, executive director of the BID, said the Walk’s goal is to make the avenue “more exciting for residents and visitors.”

LoRe, the owner of Aunt Suzie’s Restaurant, 247 Fifth, will be dedicating an entire wall in her eatery to artwork.

“It’s another reason to go out and stay on Fifth Avenue,” said LoRe.
