First Annual SummerFest

The Urban Assembly Academy of Arts & Letters, a second-year middle school in Fort Greene, will hold its First Annual SummerFest, June 21 from 12-3 p.m. at 225 Adelphi Street.

Free and open to the public, SummerFest invites the surrounding community to the school to learn more about its efforts to provide high quality middle school choice for Brooklyn families. SummerFest will include a welcome ceremony for next year’s class of incoming sixth graders and their families, an exhibition of student work, student performances, and games for all ages.

This event will also include a “Taste of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill” food fest, with food from several local restaurants available for sale, including Bacchus, Chez Lola, Chez Oscar, Habana Outpost, Graziella’s, and Little House on Clinton.

“So much of the work that we do with kids in middle school at UAAAL is building community, and teaching kids what that really looks and feels like, in our school, in our neighborhoods, in New York City, and beyond,” says Arts & Letters Principal Allison Gaines Pell. “SummerFest is a day to share our mission and talents with our Brooklyn neighborhood and to learn more about who they are, as well, so that we can build our community.”
