Mommy issues

Look back on this year’s bizarre election cycle with an equally surreal theatrical experience: Cecilia Corrigan’s serialized sitcom “Motherland,” about Hillary Clinton’s run for the White House. The show will be presented in its entirety tonight, with video elements, visits from Greek gods, and an ending that got a quick re-write the day after the election.

8 pm at Issue Project Room [22 Boerum Pl. at Livingston Street in Downtown, (718) 330–0313], www.issueprojectroom.org. $10 suggested donation.

’Cracking up

The Brooklyn Ballet kicks off its Kings County-inspired production of “The Nutcracker” tonight at the Brooklyn Museum. “The Brooklyn Nutcracker” adds hip-hop elements to the holiday classic, in a show that travels from old Dutch Breukelen to modern-day Flatbush Avenue. Tonight’s opening will feature a champagne toast at intermission. And if it sells out, you have four more chances to catch the show.

8 pm at Brooklyn Museum [200 Eastern Pkwy. at Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights, (718) 638–5000], www.brooklynmuseum.org. $40–$255.

Wine is over

Serving cabernet with the brie at your holiday party is so last year. If you want to secure your social position, soak up some knowledge at “Beer and Cheese Pairing for the Holidays,” where the Brooklyn Brewery’s Garrett Oliver will lead you through science of bringing together hops and curds, offer advice, and provide some unique tastings.

8 pm at Museum of Food and Drink Lab (62 Bayard St. between Leonard and Lorimer streets in Williamsburg, www.mofad.org). $32.

She’s got the woman card: Brooklyn artist Cecilia Corrigan wrote a play called “Motherland” about this year’s wild election.
