Gworld at Gwar!

The intergalactic aliens of GWAR are coming to Brooklyn! The heavy metal band with a complicated backstory is touring with its “Use Your Collusion” tour, but the main attraction is the over-the-top outfits and props. Members of the audience are routinely sprayed with fake blood, so be prepared!

8 pm at Warsaw [261 Driggs Ave. at Eckford Street in Greenpoint, (718) 387–0505, warsawconcerts.com]. $25.

The more you know!

Robert Dean. Dave Hill. Xazmin Garza. Jeff Steinbrunner. Mike Lebovitz (pictured). Have you heard of these comedians? If not, you really should fix that! Fortunately, you can attend “Comedians You Should Know NYC,” the Brooklyn version of a Chicago standup showcase, happening tonight at Litttlefield in Gownanus.

8 pm at Littlefield (635 Sackett St. between Third and Fourth avenues in Gowanus. littlefieldnyc.com). Free.

The ’20s

As we head into 2020, go back to 1920, with a speakeasy-themed New Year’s Eve Party at the Coney Island Brewery. The seaside beer barons will turn their taproom into a speakeasy, featuring a raucous jazz band and sideshow acts. Your ticket will get you four drink tickets and some late-night bites — and outside, there will be fireworks at midnight!

8 pm–2 am at Coney Island Brewery [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 16th Street in Coney Island, (718) 996–0019, www.coneyislandbeer.com]. $40.

Water way

Thousands of people believe that the best way to brace yourself for the coming year is to jump into the freezing waters of the Atlantic, at the New Year’s Day Coney Island Polar Bear Plunge! Personally, I think the best way to enjoy the event is by staying warm and dry, while admiring the many outfits of those going into the water, but if you want take the plunge, show up between 10 am and noon to sign up.

1 pm at Coney Island Beach (sign up at Stillwell Avenue at the Boardwalk in Coney Island, polarbearclub.org). $20 suggested donation.

First!

This is the 14th year of the “50 First Jokes,” a show where 50 comedians get on stage to tell the first joke they have written in 2020. The Brooklyn institution features plenty of up-and-coming comics performing alongside well-established comedians, including Josh Gondelman, Shalewa Sharpe, and Shane Torres, among many others.

8 pm at the Bell House [149 Seventh St. between Second and Third avenues in Gowanus, (718) 643–6510, www.thebellhouseny.com]. $20 ($15 in advance).
