These runners aren’t going for the gold — they’re going for the rainbow.
The Neon Dash at Aviator Sports and Events Center on Aug. 2 gave runners of all ages a chance to get colorful. The evening five-kilometer run was filled with fluorescent paint splashes and ultraviolet black lights, giving participants an extra glow.
The runners — many dressed in white to emphasize the black lights — shined throughout the night. Some groups ran as teams, with color-coordinated outfits — but by the end of the race, everyone was splattered with vividly hued paints.
After the race, the participants cooled down from their run by jamming at the after party, the “Huge After-Dash Bash.” There was music and dancing — and runners could even get their groove on alongside a professional dancer, who said she was impressed with the crowd’s energy.
“The audience was off the wall,” said Juna Simon of Sheepshead Bay, who has been a dancer for 11 years. “They were very energetic — they partied until the last song of the night.”
