The Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush celebrated its 35th annual Community Legislative Breakfast last Sunday, hosting elected officials from as close by as Borough Hall and as far away as the U.S. Senate.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D–New York) and Borough President Adams were among the august attendees, along with Rep. Yvette Clarke (D–Brooklyn), Public Advocate Letitia James, City Comptroller Scott Stringer, Councilman Chaim Deutsch (D–Sheepshead Bay) and Councilman Brad Lander (D–Park Slope)
The group holds the yearly breakfeast fête to honor supportive political leaders, celebrate private individuals who support member-organizations’ charitable efforts, and recognize community-development institutions.
Golden Benefactor Awards went to Ari Baum, a senior vice president at Morgan Stanley; Gil Cygler, the president and chief executive officer of AllCar Rent-A-Car; and Steve Cohn, member of the New York City Bar Matrimonial Committee and Delegate to the New York State Bar Association.
The Flatbush social-service group honored Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, who could not attend, but Deutsch stepped up to the dias in her stead.
“It was my pleasure to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the Speaker of the New York City Council, Melissa Mark-Viverito, and all my colleagues in City Council,” he said.
