Keen instinct and fast feet earned a duo of cops top honors last week from the 78th Precinct Community Council.
On Nov. 6, Officers Yvonne Baez and Ralph Gaston were on separate patrols, both in the vicinity of Prospect Park, when they received a radio call of a robbery in the area perpetrated by three males. Baez and Gaston set out to apprehend the suspects, according to Deputy Inspector John Argenziano, the commanding officer of the precinct. Gaston was able to quickly nab one male near Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard, while the other two fled to Eastern Parkway. Baez took chase, catching a second suspect. After securing the first suspect, Gaston followed Baez, and eventually tracked down the third of the trio near the central library in Grand Army Plaza.
With the suspects now in custody, Argenziano said, “the perpetrators are prevented from doing any robberies in the future.”
For their efforts, the cops received plaques inscribed with their names, and hearty applause from the large crowd gathered at the community council’s Nov. 24 meeting, held in the precinct, 65 6th Avenue.
