Borough President Markowitz really loves waterfront dining.
In addition to insisting that developer Joe Sitt add a restaurant to his planned Brooklyn Bay Center, the Beep wants a separate developer behind a proposed Coney Island condo complex to add a Boardwalk restaurant to its plans.
Markowitz sent the request to the Department of City Planning, the city agency that will decide if Red Apple Real Estate can construct the three high-rise towers and set of retail stores the company wants to see built on two seaside lots between W. 34th and 36th streets.
But, unlike Sitt, Red Apple predicts that Markowitz will be well-fed when the project is complete.
“A restaurant would be popular [in that location] and we will be reaching out,” said Red Apple lawyer Jay Segal.
The Ocean Dreams project is moving along smoothly, as Community Board 13 gave it the go-ahead in May and no one spoke out against it at a Department of City Planning public hearing in Manhattan on July 13.
