Former New York Giants running back Lee Rouson delivered a motivational speech to approximately 900 students at David A. Boody Intermediate School for Magnet Studies-IS 228, urging them to “decide who you truly are.”
Rouson, who played for the Giants from 1985-1991 and won two Super Bowl rings with the team, is now an inspirational speaker who lives in New Jersey. He is also starting a ministry in Harlem called “New Horizons.” He told the students in the sixth, seventh, and eight grades at IS 228, 228 Avenue S in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn, that he was giving them a gift of three words, urging them to ask themselves “Who are you?”
“Learn how to hear what’s real for you out of the ear of your heart,” he said. Rouson also urged the students to put on their “game faces” for their science and math tests.
Eighth grader Omar Pomoca said afterward, “I liked his message. It went inside my heart. I feel good about myself. He’s really cool.” Stella Chiu, also an eighth grader said, “I thought his words were really powerful. It was real. He understood where we’re coming from and I understood what he was saying.”
