Attend a free African Dance/Brooklyn Style symposium, March 3, 7-10 p.m. at A.R.T/New York South Oxford Space, 138 South Oxford Street, second floor, in the Fort Greene section.
This lively panel features leading members of Brooklyn’s dance community discussing the influence of African dance styles on Brooklyn dancers and choreographers. Panelists will also give brief demonstrations of African dance techniques as they are remade in Brooklyn.
Panelists include Sewaa Codrington, director, Kowteff Dance Co.; Camille A. Brown, dancer and choreographer, Camille A. Brown Dance; Michael Manswell, Something Positive Dance Co., specializing in Afro-Caribbean; Alex Smith, Thelma Hill Dance Company; Chuck Davis, founder of DanceAfrica and Dionne Kumara, former dancer with Urban Bush Women.
