Watch out, Greenpoint, the Russians are coming! For one day only, Jan. 24, Polish-themed rock venue Warsaw will be overrun by Russian clowns, contortionists, equilibrists, acrobats, jugglers, folk musicians, singers, dancers, human puppets and one very well-trained toy poodle.
It’s not another freaky rock show; this time it’s the Moscow Circus performing “A Russian Folk Fair,” its current show based on centuries old Russian traditions and fables, and narrated by mythical Russian characters. Making use of ornate costumes and backdrops, the show combines drama, cultural history and — most of all — the excitement and entertainment that can only be created by some of the greatest circus performers on earth.
“The most gratifying aspect of putting on a production such as this one,” Sasha Vosk, director and producer of the show, told GO Brooklyn, “is being able to show American audiences an affectionate representation of the Russian people, allowing them to intimately interact with us and see what we do. It’s a message of love and of sharing culture.”
In the same vein, the Warsaw show will act as a fundraiser for Town Square, a neighborhood nonprofit focused on the arts; which makes it the most exciting way to give back that we’ve come across in a while.
