This story will blow your mind!
Police cuffed three men who they claim turned two suburban Sheepshead Bay homes into sophisticated, high-tech grow houses filled with nearly $2 million worth of psychedelic mushrooms.
Detectives busted into the one home between Avenues X and W on Dec. 16 where they claim two Sheepshead Bay men and a Staten Island resident had grown more than 200 pounds of hallucinogenic mushrooms. Inside, police also found more than $30,000 in cash, $300 in gift cards, bank records, and, for good measure, an ounce of marijuana, according to acting District Attorney Eric Gonzalez’s office.
The suspects were kidding themselves if they thought they could get away with growing massive amounts of drugs right in the neighborhood, said the Special Agent in charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations.
“These individuals grew mind-altering mushrooms right in our own backyard of Brooklyn. At a few hundred dollars an ounce, this was no small business,” said Angel Melendez. “But they were hallucinating on their own product if they had thought they could hide from the law.”
Cops also raided an E. 11th Street home between Williams and Gilmore courts, where they said they found 50 more pounds of the ’shrooms, $400, and a 2007 Lexus 350 SUV, officials said.
The suspects are charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminally using drug paraphernalia. They face up to 10 years in prison, according to Gonzalez’s office.
