Gee-ze Louise! Clones fall second time to Yanks

Editor’s note: The Brooklyn Paper’s esteemed editor in chief Vince DiMiceli, who usually edits the world’s best Cyclones coverage, is on vacation, and deputy editor Nathan Tempey knows only slightly more than nothing about America’s pastime. Sure, he can tell a home run when he sees one, but mention a passed ball or a can of corn to him and you’ll get a blank stare. So bear with us as we weather this trying time, and let Tempey know what he is getting wrong in the comments.

Mets pitcher Dillon Gee started Sunday night’s game to continue working his way back from the disabled list, but the big-league firepower was not enough to stave off a second straight loss to the hated Staten Island Yankees.

Gee pitched two and two-thirds innings, giving up a run in the first, but regaining his confidence as he pitched through the second and most of the third. He ended his second rehab assignment striking out six and giving up four hits, without walking a batter. Gee is expected to make another rehab start on July 4.

The game stayed quiet on both sides until the sixth inning, when the Yanks played small ball to score four runs against Corey Oswalt.

The Clones also had a solid sixth inning. Brooklyn’s home team almost made a comeback when Anthony Chavez was hit by a pitch to start off the inning, then a series of singles by Joe Tuschak and Tomas Nido loaded the bases, and a missed catch scored Chavez as Jhoan Urena took first base.

More small ball helped the Clones score three more goals, but they wouldn’t be enough to turn the match around.

The Mini-Mets have a much-deserved off day today and will face Hudson Valley on Tuesday, July 1 in Fishkill, New York.
