Get wet and wild at Coney this summer

You won’t have to jump in the ocean at Coney Island to get wet and wild this summer.

Three inflatable water slides will open during the July 4 weekend on the beach across from the Parachute Jump as part of a new “Water Slide Beach.”

The main attraction will be a 35-foot “Steeplechase Slide” — the largest of its kind in the world, according to its owner, Anthony Gach.

“It’s like riding a big marshmallow,” said Gach, the president of Party Magic, which will operate the new attractions. “It’s unique to have a water slide on the beach.”

The park will also feature two kid-friendly slides called “Niagara” and “The Big Kahuna” — which is actually the smallest slide.

While the kids are going berserk in the water park, parents will be able to lounge in a nearby cabana area, or even rent beach chairs on the Coney sand.

If the family is feeling a little more courageous, it can tackle bungee jumping in a contraption that involves being strapped in a harness and then bounced high in the air on a trampoline.

Gach said the park will stay open through Labor Day and that the price structure for the attractions would be similar to the “pay per ride” model at the recently opened Luna Park.

“We’re hoping to get a good response [from beachgoers],” said Gach. “We’ll have something for the whole family.”
