Girls’ basketball round-up: Newman, South Shore defeat Kearney

Senior guard Baytania Newman had 24 points to lead the South Shore girls’ basketball team to a 60-56 win against hosting Bishop Kearney in a non-league game Thursday.
Christina Hiltunen, a senior point guard, led Kearney (4-8), which has lost seven straight games. South Shore ups its overall record to 12-3.
St. Joseph by the Sea 48, New Dorp 27:
Alyssa Castania had 11 points to lead St. Joseph by the Sea (4-8). Yvette Kavcic led New Dorp (5-14) with 13 points.

St. John Villa 45, St. Joseph Hill 40:
Shpresa Liharevic had 16 points to lead St. John Villa (6-7, 4-2 CHSAA Staten Island). Keelan Smith and Kieran Meagher each had 12 points and Chelsea Mester added 10 for St. Joseph Hill (6-7, 0-6).
