Gobble up: Check out these free Thanksgiving turkey giveaways before the holiday

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and before the food-heavy holiday begins, various city agencies, elected officials, and nonprofits are pitching in to make sure no Brooklynite goes hungry — here is a list of free food distributions, turkey giveaways and Thanksgiving meals this coming week.

Saturday, Nov, 19

Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway and Resource Fair: Councilmember Crystal Hudson will host her first annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway & Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 833 Classon Ave. between Lincoln Place and St. John’s Place in Crown Heights with live music and performances from the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and TropicalFete. Her team will be disbursing fresh produce, turkeys and “all the fixin’s” while supplies last. 

“Our entire team has been working hard to make sure this event is welcoming, celebratory, and full of love,” the councilwoman said in a statement. 

Not only can you grab some holiday freebies but city agencies and local community organizations will also be sharing housing and job resources. 

Bay Ridge Community Development Center Turkey Giveaway: The Bay Ridge Community Development Center will hand out turkeys and other holiday delicacies at their third annual Turkey Giveaway and Food Distribution. Starting at 11 a.m, Brooklynites can swing by 9818 Fort Hamilton Parkway. All supplies will be first come, first served and no registration is required.

Monday, Nov. 21

Catholic Charities Turkey Giveaway: Catholic Charities has already distributed over 1,000 turkeys to families in Brooklyn — and they have one more event before Thanksgiving. Starting at 10am, pick up your bird at the Holy Innocents Roman Catholic Church at 279 E. 17th St. between Beverly and Courtelyou roads in Flatbush. 

Reaching Out Community Services Gobbler Giving: Reaching Out Community Services,  a volunteer non-profit centered around promoting self-sufficiency to low-income individuals and families who are facing hardship, will distribute turkeys and trimmings to over 700 families registered with their food program from 12-2 p.m at 7708 New Utrecht Ave. between 77th and 78th streets in Dyker Heights.

According to their website, to qualify for the donation, only members of the organization’s food program may participate in this giveaway.

Tuesday, Nov. 22

Councilmember Chi Ossé’s office has movesdup their weekly Wellness Wednesday food distribution to Tuesday to accommodate their free turkey giveaway. Stop by the Bed-Stuy Restoration Plaza at 1360 Fulton St. between New York and Brooklyn avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant from 3 p.m. until supplies last to pick up a turkey and other Thanksgiving supplies. 

Brownsville Turkey Giveaway: Assemblywoman Latrice Walker partners with State Senator Zellnor Myrie and councilmember Sandy Nurse for a turkey donation at the Howard Playground in Brownsville. 

“As we give thanks for our many blessings, it’s important to remember our neighbors who struggle to put food on their tables,” Walker said in a statement. 

You do not have to pre-register to receive the yummy goodies. The giveaway begins at 12pm at the Howard Playground at the corner of Glenmore Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard in Brownsville and is first-come, first-served.

Thursday, Nov. 24

Free Thanksgiving Luncheon: Kings Theatre, The Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at Erasmus, Flatbush Avenue BID, Church Avenue BID, Stop & Shop, and the National Development Council (NDC) present a free holiday luncheon for the community. Enjoy the neighborhood feast from 12-2 p.m. in the Kings Theatre Courtyard at 1027 Flatbush Ave. between Tilden Avenue and Duryea Place in Flatbush.

Volunteers will also be passing out winter supplies to those in need. No RSVP or sign-up is required.
