Gordon Foundation winners

The Michael Gordon Foundation awarded scholarships to nine students at Bishop Kearney High School. Kearney’s Principal Sister Thomasine Stagnitta presented the awards totaling $31,440 in recognition of their scholastic achievement and academic promise.

Gordon, a native of Hungary, worked and studied at the Haute Couture design houses in France, but always dreamed of coming to the United States, which he did in 1951.

Gordon became famous for his designer handbags throughout the industry, but never forgot his humble beginnings and, in 1991, established The Michael Gordon Foundation, Inc., to be funded after his death, whose mission was to aid children under the age of 18 in areas of education, health and welfare.
