Set sail for day-drinking!
The Gowanus Yacht Club started serving beer again last Sunday afternoon, marking the beginning of the summer drinking season for many Brooklyn boozers. The low-key outdoor bar in Carroll Gardens is only open during the warmer months, and visitors started to stop inside as soon as they realized it was open, said the bartender.
“Yeah, summer is here,” said Pat Noecker, who was a Yacht Club customer before stepping behind the bar. “Business is booming, despite the occasionally inclement weather.”
Neither the summer showers or the bar’s limited selection stopped drinkers from stopping in on its first day, said the barkeep.
“People love this place, and they roughed it to have a few beers — and that’s all we have! No limes, no lemons, just beer,” said Noecker, who is also a musician.
The ironically named, land-locked Yacht Club is not yet serving food, but a grill should be in place to serve hot dogs and hamburgers by this weekend, said Noecker.
On the first day, the drink of choice was Montauk Summer Ale, he reported, a brew that, at $5, is among the more expensive cans on offer. The bar also offer eight draft beers and a collection of very cheap cans and bottles — but most people stop in for the atmosphere, not hunting exotic brews, said Noecker.
“It’s just a fresh pocket of good energy that exists here,” he said.
