Double trouble
Two different crooks robbed a Graham Avenue Chase bank in two different, but strickingly similar, incidents on July 23 and July 24.
Employees at the bank near Broadway told police that a man walked up to a teller at 4:25 pm on July 23 and handed her a note demanding money. The teller gave him $600 and the brazen robber fled on foot.
The next day, a man came in at 4:30 pm and handed a different teller a torn, yellow piece of paper reading, “Shut up I have a gun give me all the money or someone dies.” The teller gave the villain $420 and the robber ran off.
Police say the crimes were committed by two different men.
Gym, no class
Someone stole a $1,200 laptop from a S. Third Street school on July 23.
The victim, a teacher at the school between Roebling Street and Driggs Avenue, told police that he left his backpack in the gym while he went for lunch at 1 pm. When he returned, the bag was ripped open and his MacBook Pro was gone.
No more visitors
A man’s decision to bring a stranger to his S. Third Street apartment on July 24 turned out to be a bad one when the stranger got into a fight with the man’s roommate.
The victim told police that he got into an argument with the stranger in his apartment near Berry Street at 5:45 am. The stranger proceeded to beat the victim on the shoulder with a wooden dowel, then fled, police said.
Stuck up
Two robberies that happened in South Williamsburg on July 24 and 25 have eerily similar patterns, though police are not saying whether the two crimes are related.
A victim told police that he was at the corner of Broadway and Wallabout Street at noon on July 24 when two robbers approached him and asked what was in his pocket. Without further ado, the victim handed over his iPod and the robbers fled.
The next day a group of men surrounded a man and a woman on the southeast corner of Lorimer Street and Harrison Avenue at 1:30 am and told the victims to empty their pockets, police said. One of the robbers simulated a gun and said “Oh, just let me take it from her or I’ll shoot her,” and “If you tell, we’ll come back.” They then took a $140 watch, a wallet, and an iPod, said cops, who later arrested one suspect.
Bad for business
A larcenist stole a car that a mechanic had parked on Bartlett Street while it was in cue to be fixed on July 22.
The owner of Fratelli Motors told police that he parked the gray van between Throop and Harrison avenues at 9 am. When he went back for it at 8 pm, it was gone.
A survelliance video showed that people pulled up in a black truck, threw a chain around the truck, and towed it away, police said.
Not so secure
Someone stole more than $1,000 from a Grand Street restaurant overnight on July 23.
The owner of the eatery between Leonard Street and Manhattan Avenue told police that he discovered $1,058 missing from a locked box as he opened for business at 10 am.
The box had been stashed in a closet across from the register, and the intruder appeared to have entered by prying open window bars in the back of the restaurant, police said.
