’Green’ day

’Green’ day

If you saw these billboards (pictured) cruising all over Carroll Gardens and Park Slope last weekend, they were literally pedaling this weekend’s “Gowanus Goes Green” festival.

On June 1, the “Green” day will take over the banks of the canal, featuring vendors, live music and environmentally friendly workshops.

The goal of the festival, according to Bob ‘Spongebob’ Zuckerman, executive director of the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, which is hosting the event, is “cleaning and advocating for the public spaces around the canal.”

Local environmentally conscious companies, including the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, Solar One and Greenopia, will be out in full force. Park Slope restaurant V Spot will cater the event with 100 percent vegan eats and bluegrass band The Defibulators will provide the soundtrack, making sure the festival, sponsored by The Brooklyn Paper, is both eco-friendly and entertaining.

The Gowanus Goes Green Festival takes place on June 1, from 11 am to 6 pm, at The Yard (388-400 Carroll St. at Bond Street in Gowanus). For information, call (718) 858-0557 or visit www.gowanuscanal conservancy.org.
