Each of the pretty bulbs represents the wish of a dying child.
Selfless boroughites plied their green thumbs to sprout seeds of hope, joy and strength for youngsters with life-threatening illnesses by planting more than 500 flowers and shrubs at Shore Road Garden.
The “Wishes in Bloom” oasis, launched in 2006 by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, drew “wish teams” of local students, youth groups and community organizations, who beautified the emerald empire at Shore Road and 90th Street with 510 bulbs in a show of support for the nation’s premier wish-granting group.
Joining the big-hearted volunteer were staff from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York and the Shore Road Garden Council, members of the ROTC from Fort Hamilton High School, 8301 Shore Road, and Cub and Boy Scouts from St. Anselm’s Elementary School, 365 83rd Street.
