Green-Wood fundraiser Oct. 3

The Green-Wood Historic Fund will hold its first annual fundraiser, October 3 from 6-9:30 p.m., to support the array of preservation projects, community outreach events and educational programs that take place at Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th Street.

The event, which will be held at the cemetery’s Historic Chapel, honors Debby Applegate, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “The Most Famous Man in America: The Biography of Henry Ward Beecher” (a Green-Wood permanent resident), and will feature live music and dance, choreographed and directed by Martha Bowers of Dance Theatre Etcetera, and performed by the cast of Angels and Accordions.

Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a buffet dinner will be served.

The Green-Wood Historic Fund was established in 1999 to maintain Green-Wood Cemetery’s monuments and buildings of historical, cultural, and architectural significance; to advance public knowledge and appreciation; and to preserve the natural habitat of one of New York City’s first green spaces.

Additionally, the historic fund presents many public events including themed walking tours, lectures and other special exhibits.

The $150 gala ticket includes admission to the Gala reception, performance and award ceremony. The $250 VIP ticket includes all gala benefits, plus a signed copy of Applegate’s book and a special VIP trolley tour.
