Gristedes marked Childhood Cancer Awareness month in September by joining forces with the Children’s Cancer and Blood Foundation to raise thousands of dollars for children with cancer at the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weil Cornell Medical Center.
Customers at all 31 Gristedes supermarkets in Manhattan and Brooklyn were able to make a donation at the register to raise funds for children with cancer. An estimated 15,780 American children and adolescents — around 43 a day — will be diagnosed with the disease this year.
The annual drive was a way for communities to join together, remember and assist families and children affected by cancer, and support ground-breaking research to give kids with cancer better outcomes, said Gristedes executive Andrea Catsimatidis.
“Each year, unfortunately more than 10,000 children are diagnosed with cancer,” she said. “Gristedes is proud to support the vital work of the Children’s Cancer and Blood Foundation, and we are fortunate to have so many outstanding customers who donated to this worthy cause.”
