Grocers go head-to-head on price in sticker shocker

Neighbors of the Met Foods on Smith Street are bemoaning its impending closure, saying that it will leave them without a no-frills place to grab groceries in the neighborhood. We paid a visit to the doomed supermarket and the two nearest ones to see how their prices stack up. Below are the costs of the cheapest of a smattering of staples at each shop — and it turns out C-Town gives Met Foods a run for its money.

Loaf of wheat bread: $2.99

A dozen eggs: $1.99

Can of black beans: $0.99

Union Market
