A Park Slope community group will hold an open meeting tonight to update New York Methodist Hospital’s neighbors on what they can expect as the scaled-back expansion of the hospital goes forward.
Preserve Park Slope, which fought against the hospital’s expansion plan for more than a year, came to an agreement with Methodist in January that addressed some of the group’s most pressing concerns over the height of a new building and increased traffic in the neighborhood.
In the settlement, Methodist agreed to reduce the new U-shaped outpatient center along Eighth Avenue and Fifth and Sixth streets by one floor, move an entrance to the building from Eighth Avenue to Sixth Street, and employ a traffic engineer to develop a route that will minimize delivery trucks’ and ambulances’ use of residential streets, except in emergencies.
Topics at the meeting will include how demolition and construction will affect neighbors, the projected timetable of the project, and how community members can monitor and influence the expansion in the future.
