A Brooklyn resident was arrested at James Madison High School on July 8 for allegedly trying to bring drugs into the troubled Sheepshead Bay school.

The 24-year-old suspect entered the front door of the school and passed his bag through a scanner at approximately 5 pm, police said.

The scanner showed a gun, which prompted the school safety officers to go through his bag.

The gun turned out to be fake — an Ekol Voltran blank-firing pistol — which is not illegal to own or carry. But they also discovered two bags of marijuana. The safety officers alerted police, who arrested the man at 7:05 pm for unlawful possession of marijuana, as well as two outstanding warrants.

The Department of Education said that he man was neither a student nor an employee, but did not comment on what the man was doing trying to enter the school at that hour.
