Hall opens for Vance

In 1975 while most of us boogied to “King Fu Fighting” and swayed to “Love Will Keep Us Together,” Kenny Vance and the Planotones were looking for an echo.

Today, 33 years later, Kenny Vance has found it.

Though long over due, Vance has finally walked the carpet, the red one that is, and was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame at a ceremony in the Garden City Hotel in Garden City.

Vance enters the ranks with the likes of Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond, Mariah Carey and Simon & Garfunkel.

Kenny Vance, the “Dylan of Doo Wop” as coined by Paul Shaffer, founding member of Jay and the Americans, along with the Planotones, is bringing the oldies but goodies to a new generation of fans

His renditions of such hits as “This I Swear,” “Gloria,” “This Magic Moment” as well as his own “Looking For An Echo,” have brought audiences stamping, swaying and standing on their toes at his still sold out concerts in theaters all over the East Coast.

His latest album, Countdown to Love with his recording of “There Goes My Baby,” is currently nominated as Best National Dance/Shag Song in the Carolina Beach Music Awards and has been on the Beach Music Top 40 Chart for 26 weeks, rising to Number 1 for the entire month of August.
