Handy dads make the grade at PS 295!

The testosterone was in full swing at PS 295 on Saturday as deft dads turned handymen hunks to build raised beds for the school’s edible garden — earning themselves an A+ for good work!

Sawing, milling, hammering and assembling was no problem for the brawny bunch, which spent the best part of the day constructing wooden frames for the raised plant beds in which their green-thumbed youngsters will grow lettuce, cukes, tomatoes, cilantro and peppers — among other tasty treats — before school heads out for the summer on June 28.

“They had this whole system set up, and boom, boom, boom, they just got to work, they were amazing!” said librarian Susan Weseen, remarking, “It was a really nice group of people working together towards a common goal.”

Weseen sprouted the idea of a school garden to sow knowledge in her students about proper nutrition and breed environmental awareness — one of several ways she is helping to instill green measures at the school, including composting lunch leftovers and recycling.

The educator got the plough rolling after receiving a grant from Slow Food NYC, a member-supported non-profit group which thumbs its nose at fast food and fast life.

Now, thanks to a group of fastidious fathers, PS 295— on 18th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues in the South Slope — is about to get a whole lot greener!
