A man was found dead under the Coney Island Boardwalk this morning — the apparent victim of a suicide.

Cops found the unidentified man hanging from a support beam in a six to eight-foot space behind the New York Aquarium near W. Eighth Street at around 11 am. He was not carrying identification but is believed to be in his 40s, witnesses said.

An autopsy has not been performed, so it remains unclear exactly how the man died. Police sources on the scene said the man took his own life.

A chain link fence prevents people from getting underneath the boardwalk, but witnesses claim the victim crawled through a hole in the fence paces away from where he was found.

“One of the guesses is that he was homeless,” said Chuck Reichenthal, the district manager of Community Board 13.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to come forward. Calls can be made to the NYPD CrimeStoppers hotline at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
