Darrin’s Discovery Wines for November!

Sauvignon Touraine, Mathur Our good friend Michael Lerner keeps finding these delicious, well-priced wines for us! The wine has an aromatic nose with notes of melon, grapefruit, honey, spices and minerals showing. Lively in the mouth with layers of pure fruit flavors, plenty of intriguing complexity, lovely balance and a long, silky finish. The enticing aromas of melon and grapefruit come through on the palate, and there is a clean and refreshing level of bright acidity. This is a Must Buy from the Loire Valley, home of great Sauvignon Blanc. $11.95

Salice Salentino, Terra Saracena More proof that Apulia has become a center for high quality wines at bargain prices! Salice Salentino is made from the Negroamaro grape, with small amounts of Malvasia added for depth and for an added aromatic layer. This wine is an intense ruby red with flashed of orange at the edges. An intense nose of berries and traces of wood smoke fills the glass. On the palate, the wine is dry, very well balanced, full bodied and shows flavors of raisins, cherry, wild field herbs and a lovely, earthy note. This is my favorite with pizza, sausages & peppers, lasagna… all of those old-fashioned “red sauce” dishes that never go out of favor. $15.95

Sauternes, Château Villefranche This wine is a steal! Plenty of that apricot-honey flavor that only a good Sauternes possesses, this wine drinks like you paid at least 50% more for it! Good complexity and plenty of the Botrytis character that makes this “King of Wines” as rich as it is. While Sauternes IS the finest dessert wine in the world, it’s not only for dessert! I know of no better match with Pâté de Foie Gras, and with rich, ripe bleu cheeses it’s a divine match! Sauternes this good at this price will not last long, so buy some today! $16.95

November’s Cellar Selection is Here… and We Did the Cellaring for You!

Here’s one that you can enjoy right now! It’s a shame that we rarely have the chance to drink well-aged, mature wine. Too many times the better wines that we love are gone long before they have had the chance to come together, to reach their potential, to achieve the rich smoothness that can only be achieved with ageing. Well, here’s your chance to buy a wine that has already been held in the climate controlled cellars of the importer for over six years, and now he’s released it to me for a song! This wine is so delicious, has such depth and complexity, that it tastes like a $40 bottle! If you love mature wines, or if you’d simply like to find out what difference ageing can make on a better red wine, here is your chance! Heady aromas of berries, cherry, wild field grasses and wet slate. On the palate, layers of ripe fruit and stewed berries, an earthy component, a hint of leather and a faint trace of tar. Do not miss out on this one!
