This year’s Miss Brooklyn competition proved again that the smartest, prettiest and most civic-happenin’ gals hail from Brooklyn — especially our 2011 “Miss Brooklyn,” Bensonhurst beauty Christina Moore, 20.
The arts administration and dance student at Wagner College showed poise, concern for society, and her overall great health (a pageant euphemism — remember, it’s not all about beauty, people!). She also danced her way into the judges’ hearts.
The contest was last Saturday at the Brooklyn Music School on St. Felix Street in Fort Greene — and now Moore has a chance to follow in the footsteps of legendary former Miss Brooklyn Leigh-Taylor Smith, who made it all the way to the Miss America competition (where, frankly, she was robbed by that airhead from Oklahoma!).
Tamara Walker, spokeswoman for the Miss Brooklyn Scholarship Organization, which hosts the annual contest, said Moore has what it takes to go the distance.
“We look for young women who stand out because of their outstanding community service, their passion for Brooklyn and their willingness to succeed,” she said.
The “Outstanding Teen” category went to Dutchess County’s Lauren Mollela, 15, who delivered a sage speech on scoliosis management and treatment.
Park Sloper Carmen Mendoza, 23, a journalism student at New York University, was crowned “Miss County Queen” after endearing herself with a presentation about de-stigmatizing HIV testing.
