Cyclones 3
Lowell 0
July 7 at MCU Park
The Cyclones’ pitching came through for the second straight night and the Brooklyn Boys of Summer beat the Lowell Spinners 3–0 for their second shutout of the season.
While the Clones’ pitching frustrated the Spinners, second baseman L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli singled to center in the fourth and outfielder Jorge Rivero hit an RBI single through the hole at second to bring Mazzilli home. Juan Gamboa also scored off a Lowell throwing error in the same inning.
Like last night’s pitching performance, the Cyclones used four hurlers to get the job done. This included five innings from starter Miller Diaz, who struck out eight Spinners. The pitchers struck out a total of 10 batters in the win, and the Cyclones avoided any errors, which manager Rich Donnelly said was the result of lots of hard work finally paying off.
“That’s a clean game. It’s so good to see that,” Donnelly said. “You practice it over and over, and then it happens. We didn’t bludgeon anybody by any means, but we did what we had to do.”
The Cyclones return to play the Spinners tonight at 7 pm.
