Hurdle for Tish challenger

Upstart candidate Delia (Dee) Hunley−Adossa is expected to overcome the challenge against her petitions to get on the ballot in the 35th District City Council Democratic primary against incumbent Letitia (Tish) James.

Both Hunley−Adossa and James are popular and active figures in the district, which includes Clinton Hill and Fort Greene, and parts of Crown Heights, Prospect Heights and Bedford−Stuyvesant.

The key difference between the two is that Hunley−Adossa supports the Atlantic Yards project while James opposes it.

The two are also very close in fundraisng for the upcoming Sept. 15 primary −− with James having $31,030 in her coffers and Hunley−Adossa having $22,585 in her campaign war chest.

Also running is Medhanie Estiphanos, a relative newcomer to Brooklyn politics, but whose supporter, Hector Santana, filed an objection to Hunley−Adossa.

At press time, it is still not known what Santana’s objections were to Hunley−Adossa, but her election attorney, former State Sen. Marty Connor, said there shouldn’t be a problem with her remaining on the ballot.

“She [Hunley−Adossa] has plenty of signatures. She filed 3,231 and needs only 900,” said Connor.

Connor noted that the specifications for the challenge were supposed to be filed last Monday, and the city’s Board of Elections (BOE) has already noted that specifications were not handed in properly.

The BOE noted in that the specification cover letter wasn’t attached to the document, and it was not sent by certified mail.

”This challenge is going nowhere,” said Connor, adding that the BOE usually drops the objections on these types of technicalities.

The BOE is expected to make a ruling on the matter Monday.

Hunley−Adossa said she is not surprised by the challenge.

“I’m not going to stop the race. I’m full speed ahead and in it to win it,” she said.
