ID theft

Police are investigating two cases of identity theft that were reported on March 14.

In one case, a 20-year-old 74th Street woman told police that someone withdrew $600 from her bank account using her personal information.

Later that day, a 38-year-old 73rd Street woman reported that she recently began receiving packages from stores even though she had never ordered anything.

Apparently someone had opened charge accounts using her Social Security number.

The women live a block apart, between Ridge Boulevard and Third Avenue.

Gold fever

Someone swiped a gold chain worth $1,500 from a Fifth Avenue doctor’s office on March 15.

The chain had been left unattended on a chair in the office, which is located between 74th Street and Bay Ridge Parkway, by a 46-year-old man.

When he returned at 1 pm, it was gone.
