MTA workers missed their latest deadline for repairs at the long-decrepit Jay Street-Borough Hall station, which is still showing a March 31 completion date as of today.
By the way, today is April 2.
It’s not the first time the workers have missed their self-inflicted deadline for reopening the stairway on the north side of the station. As our pictures show, the work on the stairway was initially supposed to be completed by Jan. 31. When it wasn’t, a worker made the necessary adjustment to March 31.
The contractors did the same thing after missing a Dec. 31 deadline last year, but we weren’t wise enough to take the picture that time.
By the end of the day on Friday, the new deadline was up: May 1.
Straphangers called the whole thing “ridiculous.”
“Nothing is getting done,” said Raunaq Patwardahn, a student at Polytechnic University, whose campus is on Jay Street. “And it’s worse, because the entrance at the south side of the station isn’t open, either.”
Another user, Leon Kirby, said he just wishes the staircase was open already.
“It’s adding time to my trip because I have to run to the other staircase,” he said.
